Standing five and three-quarter inches tall, on a three and three-quarter inch by two and a half inch base, this antique thermometer is an excellent working condition. The thermometer itself is French. The little figure dancing around the palm tree looks very much like the artful dodger and how he was depicted at the turn of that century. Why this little boy is with a palm tree is beyond me. As you can see, one of the palms at the back of the tree has been curled down - I hesitate to straighten it out, as I don’t want to end up breaking it. It doesn’t interfere with the look of the piece. At over 140 years old, the thermometer is in very good vintage condition, and has light wear and accordance with its age. It does not sit completely flush, but again doesn’t affect the look of the item. There’s a tiny ding in the base. The palm tree which has the thermometer attached to it, screws into the base, and can move back-and-forth. $245
