This vintage menu from Purcell's Restaurant is a true gem for any menu collector or lover of Boston memorabilia. Featuring the iconic location of 10 City Hall Avenue a.k.a 25 School Street, this menu is a piece of history that showcases the culinary offerings of Gino DiLuca in the 1960s. 

Clientele featured politicians, celebrities and affluent shoppers seeking refuge from Filenes and Jordans.

Antique advertising, novelty buttonhook S. Cohen and Co. Kid gloves

This wonderful antique advertising novelty buttonhook (although it’s not hook shaped it is designed to help you button your gloves) was made for” S. Cohen & Co. Dealers in Fringes, Passementerie, Laces, Ornaments, Buttons & Small Wares.” I have a photograph of their advertising that I will show in the last two pictures.
The actual pull through loop is attached to a die-cut silver metal eagle that holds a glove clutched in its claws. Stamped on the back of the eagle are the words “S. COHEN & CO. KID GLOVES WINTER ST.”
The eagle is an excellent condition, especially considering its edge. The loop has some surface rust toward the bend.
The loop is 3 inches long. The eagle is approximately an inch and a half long.

SALE! Framed Pledge of Allegiance Ornate Illuminated by J.R. Rosen Studio Boston 1956

Very patriotic, framed Pledge of Allegiance. by J.R. Rosen Studio Boston with Flag and Shield.  Dated 1956, it is in very good condition. Very ornate lettering within an intricate art nouveau style cartouche. Measures 12 1/2" x 9 1/2". Very fancy. Check it out here on eBay.

Vintage Pair Brighams Ice Cream Parlor Soda Glasses New England Favorite

 

Pair of glasses from Boston's beloved Brigham's Ice Cream Parlor restaurants. Brigham's logo in script in red on clear glass. Ingredient measuring lines on the back. Approximately 5 inches tall and made by Libbey glass.  Both glasses have some usage wear.  One is in excellent condition but the other has a chip on the bottom rim shown in last 2 photos. Still usable and not very noticeable. Extremely hard to find.  Check out the 10 day eBay auction here.

Make Way for Ducklings Shreve Crump and Low Pewter Silver Picture Frame

Adorable vintage picture frame features Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings from the iconic children's  story Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey. The story is set in Boston where legendary local retailer Shreve, Crump and Low sold this. It is 5" tall from the top of Mrs. Mallard's head to the bottom and approximately 4 1/2" long.  It has some mild wear and one of the three pins that holds the backing is missing. Does not need it.  It works just fine. It would be very easy to replace.  Marked 1001, contains silver. Fine American Pewter. Copyright Shreve Pewter USA. c 1930 BW Photo Park Street Boston Massachusetts Statehouse 223/1000

So much going on in this matted,framed, and numbered silver gelatin photo.  Chilly Bostonians attend to their business in the heart of the city next to  Boston Common, looking up towards the gold dome of the Massachusetts statehouse.  Some businesses are still here but most are gone, with some not forgotten. Late 1920s early 1930s? I am unsure of the significance of this image, but it looks like a press photo.  It has been numbered 223/1000.  I hope more information would be available on the back of the photographic image.  8" x 10" image in a 14" x 17" (approx.) frame. The frame is chippy and shabby but ready to hang. Check out the ebay auction here
