Hazel Ware mid century painting Temple of Juno fantasy
This fabulous surrealist dreamscape that seems to depict (as best I can tell) a version of The Temple of Juno at Agrigento, Sicily. The scene is populated by various little figures recreationally, enjoying themselves on an mountain topped with ruins.
The oil painting is signed by Hazel Ware, an artist and designer, who gained fame designing handkerchiefs with whimsical puppies and kittens on them in the 1950s. She can for instance, be seen in the book Handkerchiefs:volume two, a collectors guide, identification and values. By Barbara Guggenheim in Helene Guarnaccia.
I don’t know if this painting was painted while she was studying or after she became a fabulous handkerchief designer, but its modernist feel is most likely from the postwar era. It is painted on some type of board, not canvas.
CONDITION —
The painting really needs to be cleaned!
Most likely from cigarette smoke, the yellowing is most noticeable in the clouds. The linen edging that surrounds the painting, has yellowed and needs to be replaced. The outside frame could stand to be touched up.
Perfect work for an intermediate restorer, as the paint is not lifting or cracking just very dirty.
The painting is priced with condition in mind.

Charles Demetropoulos Watercolor Painting Rockport Street June 1952
Delightful watercolor street scene by listed artist Charles Demetropoulos captures the mood of downtown Rockport, Massachusetts during a summer shower. A woman crosses the street with her umbrella. Someone waits under the porch for the rain to stop. Cars parked on the street amid the shops and homes of this famous artist's colony. Signed and dated by the artist. June 19, 1952. The watercolor painting is 24 3/4" x 30 3/4" It bears the stamp from the artist's estate on the back. This painting was last sold at auction in 1996. I have that paperwork and I will give to you. Mid Century Paris Notre Dame Street Scene Watercolor Painting by Ch. Maurice Noted Cathedral Artist
Just an absolutely beautiful mid century image of Notre Dame cathedral and the artists that sold their work in its view. Painted in the 1950s as you can tell from the clothing on the individuals, it depicts a post war Paris street scene.
I believe the painting is a watercolor with conte crayon. In the corner it is signed Ch Maurice in a very distinctive signature. Poor Charles Maurice can be found on the web being called Maurice Charles and given an assortment of birth dates relating to many other historic Charles Maurices. which is a shame because his work is very good. This beautifully framed painting measures 28“ x 24". The inside opening image measures 21 1/2“ x 18“. Purchased from a local estate it is in very very good condition but probably could stand to be re-matted.

1950s Blue Morpheus Butterfly Wing Sweater Clips Sweater Guard
All though sometimes you’ll see these labeled as collar clips, this is actually a sweater guard or a sweater chain.
Around 70 years ago sweater sets we’re all the rage and wearing a cardigan draped over your shoulders was a common look. Jewelry inventors took this as a cue to invent a safety guard to keep your sweater from falling.
This silver colored set of clips are in very good condition except for a small area on the corner of one of them , where there had been a manufacturing glue drip that removed the finish. The price reflects the condition. The blue of the Morpheus wings are very vivid behind the reverse painted tropical scene.
