Hazel Ware mid century painting Temple of Juno fantasy

This fabulous surrealist dreamscape that seems to depict (as best I can tell) a version of The Temple of Juno at Agrigento, Sicily. The scene is populated by various little figures recreationally, enjoying themselves on an mountain topped with ruins.

The oil painting is signed by Hazel Ware, an artist and designer, who gained fame designing handkerchiefs with whimsical puppies and kittens on them in the 1950s. She can for instance, be seen in the book Handkerchiefs:volume two, a collectors guide, identification and values. By Barbara Guggenheim in Helene Guarnaccia.
I don’t know if this painting was painted while she was studying or after she became a fabulous handkerchief designer, but its modernist feel is most likely from the postwar era. It is painted on some type of board, not canvas.
CONDITION —
The painting really needs to be cleaned!
Most likely from cigarette smoke, the yellowing is most noticeable in the clouds. The linen edging that surrounds the painting, has yellowed and needs to be replaced. The outside frame could stand to be touched up.
Perfect work for an intermediate restorer, as the paint is not lifting or cracking just very dirty.
The painting is priced with condition in mind.

Check it out here on Etsy.

Homestead in Early Spring Oil on Canvas by Girard 1973

Lovely oil painting of a family farm in what appears to be early spring.

It is approx 17" long and 13" tall, signed and dated by the artist, Girard.

This artist places their signature quite uniquely.

The painting features a family farm with windmill and water tank surrounded by a yellow, grassy grain field and flowers. A pond with primitive fence completes the canvas.

Girard created several works with this homestead theme in the early 70's. I believe this is the nicest one.

Very talented painter and a very intricate work.

It will provide any room with a cheery splash of color.

Nice early example of 1970's environmentalism becoming an art movement. Totally cottagecore.

The painting is in excellent condition but the frame has a few minor issues. It would really benefit from a good cleaning.

Check out the photos for  accurate condition.

Early 20th Century Sunset Oil Painting by J. Brichel Listed Artist

This beautifully evocative sunset was painted somewhere in the first quarter of the 20th century by J. Brichel. An artist notable for painting golden light.
The painting and frame has obviously had a rough ride through the last 100 years, making it prime for restoration.
The outside of the frame measures 29“ x 18“. restoration could be done on the frame but it will take a knowledgeable hand. The painting itself obviously needs to be cleaned. Brichel’s work regularly sells for between $400 and $600, all of this has been taken into account in pricing the painting. It may also be hung and enjoyed as it is in your shabby chic coastal granny decor.

$205

The Charming Little Oil Painting That Is Not Torn (Painted to look that way)

SOLD!

This is the original work the artist copied

As you can see from the photographs the painting is only 7 inches long and 5 1/2 inches wide framed.
This amazing small painting depicts a little girl praying at the foot of her bed, in her tattered room with ripped wallpaper, attended only by her little black cat. The painting of the rip in the wallpaper is done so well, I thought the image was actually ripped. Please see the photo where I show the surface of the painting (Great trompe l’oeil illusion).
The image of the child praying is lifted from a lithograph put out by Tabor–Prang Co. in 1904 as Lord’s Prayer as can be seen in the last photograph. Someone did make a very precious painting out of it.
