Charles Demetropoulos Watercolor Painting Rockport Street June 1952

Delightful watercolor street scene by listed artist Charles Demetropoulos captures the mood of downtown  Rockport, Massachusetts during a summer shower. A woman crosses the street with her umbrella. Someone waits under the porch for the rain to stop.  Cars parked on the street amid the shops and homes of this famous artist's colony. Signed and dated by the artist. June 19, 1952.   The watercolor painting is 24 3/4" x 30 3/4" It bears the stamp from the artist's estate on the back. This painting was last sold at auction in 1996. I have that paperwork and I will give to you. The image itself is in excellent condition while overall this is in very good condition with some wear t o the frame, some areas of discoloration on the mat, and the fabric strip on the fame is loose in areas. Handsome 10 1/2" centerpiece serving bowl by revered Cape Cod potter and listed artist Marion Eckhardt (1915 - 2008).

Studio Art Pottery Lidded Jar Vessel Urn Flambeau Crystalline Glaze Signed

 

Stunning covered jar in crystalline glaze. Expertly potted with a snug fitting lid. The colors and pearlessence are complex and amazing.  All pale purple and pink hues. Lavender, lilac, mauve...then the light changes a bit and it  looks dusty pink and silver. If you've never owned pottery with a crystalline glaze, that's what it does.  Crackled and crazed.  The crackling is visible to the naked eye except where a seeded zinc crystal had formed.  Under magnification the crackle resumes, yet smaller. It plays with color and light in the most delightful ways.  It is in excellent condition.  Made during the huge surge in studio art pottery in 60's and 70's Signed illegibly by the artist. I have only seen one other like this. It is lovely. A perfect stash jar or would be the perfect as a receptacle for treasures, trinkets or just display it,  near a window. Well crafted and beautifully glazed pot. Very pleasing swirls of greens, blues and grays. Artist signed. Approximately 4 3/4" tall and 3 1/2" widest part. SALE!!!! Mid Century Urban Decay Watercolor- framed 19” x 16”

This fabulous watercolor of an urban scene is signed in what I believe is JL Southwick. The colors, frame and matting lead me to believe that this painting is from the 1960s. The outside measurement of the frame is 19 x 16“ the inside image is 13 1/2 by 10“. I have not been able to find any other work by this artist, but with the beauty of this work, I hope they had a long career.

"As an artist I look at what others consider mundane or uninviting - from the bow of a boat to the branch of a tree, from a few discarded 

objects to the play of shadows on rocks, to the reflections of a boat's hull against the ever moving water - and see an opportunity for a painting.

Nature and man's interactions with nature are the main theme of my work.

Be it the remains of old weathered wooden piers, driftwood, old man-made objects that have found their way into the 

environment, or just natural objects - trees, rocks, water. The work itself may represent man's intrusion into nature or natures 

own forces at work. The search for subject matter is never far away. It is as near as a lake, the seashore, the local walking trail, or 

the back yard. Each season brings new opportunities for new paintings.

My media of choice is acrylic, because it allows me to choose to work as in oil paint or a looser watercolor style or 

something in-between, all in one media." Donald Gotz.
