 They are well made porcelain, red transfer ware with some hand embellished gilding.

4 plates in all. They are 9 1/2 inches in diameter. 

They feature bucolic scenes of young boys at leisure, and one is a vase scene.

They are all tied together by the color, the butterflies, and the branches of blossoms.

They are in very good condition and have seen little if any use. They have shelf and wash wear.

There is kiln grit, some iron spots, and one glazed over rim chip among various minor manufacturing flaws.

Gorgeous hand painting featuring peonies, birds and butterflies The mug is unusually large at approximately 4 1/2" tall and the diameter is approximately 4 inches wide. Well painted, with a nice clean foot. Elaborate twisted handle with raised areas.  Beautiful enamel colors amid thoughtful outlining and shading.  The cup is in good condition with manufacturing flaws such as glaze pops, iron spots and kiln grit.  There is damage to the handle and rims, wear and gold loss. Exceptional Pair of Taisho Period Fine Eggshell Kutani Peony 1000 Butterfly Cups and Saucers

 

Some of the most beautiful Japanese eggshell porcelain combined with outstanding enameling talent went into the making of these two beautiful cups and saucers. Made during the Taisho period, they come from the first quarter of the 20th century. The painting of the peony flower and the greenery and leaves that are painted under the base are breathtaking. The butterflies are painted in elegant, minute detail. There are even a few dragonflies. Very rare Kutani ware. In amazingly perfect condition. The saucers are almost 6 inches in diameter.
